My mission is to ensure that Digital and Contemporary Pedagogy actually makes it into the classroom.
Too many reforms and ‘new initiatives’ are either not sustained or never make it into the average classroom. This is usually as a result of Vertical rather than Horizontal Leadership, with an emphasis on short-term compliance rather than truly transforming teaching and leaning in a sustained way.
Thus, well into the new millennium, most classrooms that I am exposed to are little changed from the 1950’s. Current educational systems, world-wide it seems, have an improvement agenda that is about improving this Traditional model of teaching and learning. Indeed, data from high-stakes testing regimes merely benchmark basic student fluency on literacy and numeracy, within the confines of these mostly Traditional classrooms.
We must now shift from Traditional Classrooms to Contemporary ones. What I mean by this will be elucidated in future blogs.
